We had the most amazing day ever in San Francisco (the actual location of SevenPonds’ headquarters) yesterday, as the city actually became Gotham City for a day – really! Miles Scott is a kindergartner (the sweetest) who is in remission from leukemia. Yesterday, Miles got his Make-A-Wish dream fulfilled thanks to the efforts of The City By The Bay. For the entire day, Miles roamed the city as “Batkid” (a take on his favorite superhero, Batman). It was the most incredible day for Miles, who was playing a real-life Batman — especially because everyone else in San Francisco joined in, too!

The city prepared a week ahead of time for its transformation into Gotham City, which guaranteed Miles a spectacular day full day of Batman crime-fighting events. While constantly donning his Batman costume, Miles was escorted by his Batman helper (unknown) as they zoomed off to each scene in a black, souped up Lamborghini Batmobile — and oh, did the crowds gather and cheer him on! Also joining him was his mother, Natalie, his father Nick and his younger brother as Robin.

Miles was accompanied by his family from Tulelake, California (near the Oregon border) and was simply cute as a button in his Batman get-up. This boy was not going to let his leukemia stop him from saving a damsel-in-distress on one of San Francisco’s famous cable car tracks, or capturing the evil Riddler from robbing a downtown vault full of goodies. He even went on a wild rescue chase to save the San Francisco Giants mascot, Lou Seal, who was kidnapped by The Peguin and taken to from ATT Ballpark (just around the corner from our headquarters!) His last stop was with our Mayor Ed Lee, who thanked Miles on the steps of city hall. There, in front of the thankful “Gotham City” citizens, Miles stood at a podium in his Batman costume. In that proud moment, he was handed a giant key to the city! Not to mention, he was given another made of Tcho chocolate to munch on. At Batkid’s side were his proud father, mother and brother as Robin.

Miles was a superhero for the day — but he’s also been a hero his entire life, for so many kids and adults, with his battle against leukemia. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has yet again showed true heroism by allowing a child to have his dream to come true. With an enormous amount of help from a supportive public, the whole city of San Francisco gave a priceless experience of imagination, hope and confidence to a child dying of cancer.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation gives the gift of a child’s wish to children who are battling a life-threatening condition. If you’d like to donate, click here.
