Funeria is an international arts agency that enlists top artists to create unique art you might not expect: funeral urns. Each piece is a fascinating memorial to the individual it was created to honor, a beautiful work of art that oftentimes is not even distinguishable as a funeral urn upon first glance.
With the country’s cremation rates rising over 15% since 1997, greater focus has inevitably fallen on the way the remains of the deceased are handled. When forgoing the traditional burial for cremation, the headstone is often lost as a memorial to the deceased as well. This has created a fantastic opportunity for artists to re-imagine that memorial in the form of the funeral urn.
Rather than just a simple vessel to hold cremation ashes for home display, burial, or transport to a scattering site; funeral urns like those sold and exhibited by Funeria are beautiful works of art in themselves, as well as a great way to create a unique homage to the life of the deceased.
Funeria holds the biennial Art Honors Life exhibit in Northern California’s Sonoma County, a premier display of its unique collection. The current exhibit can be viewed online through October 2011.
Just wondering what you think of my ideas on cremation art
Thanks
