“See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth

When Paul Walker tragically died before filming wrapped on Furious 7, the actors, crew, and fans of the franchise collectively mourned his loss. Walker had been the star of all seven franchise films, and his character was a fan favorite. On November 30, 2013, he and his friend, Roger Rodas, left an event organized by Walker’s charity, Reach Out WorldWide, for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, and minutes later, both men died in a horrific car crash. The world lost a great actor and humanitarian. Rapper Wiz Khalifa was charged with creating “See You Again” as a tribute song for Walker that would appear on the Furious 7 soundtrack.

Written by DJ Frank E, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa, and Andrew Cedar, “See You Again” is the lead single from the Furious 7 soundtrack. The song received three Grammy nominations and spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Charlie Puth, who sings the hook, “It’s been a long day without you, my friend / And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again,” had a strong emotional attachment to the song. He had recently lost a close friend in a motorcycle accident, so the song felt more personal for him.

Khalifa raps,

In the film Furious 7, Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor, decides to leave the drag racing life behind and pursue a quieter life with his family. The franchise and film studio, Universal, spoke with his family for permission to move forward with the film. His brother, Cody Walker, acted as a stand-in for Walker so that the remaining scenes could be filmed. His brother said, “My love for cars, my love for travel — it’s all from him and I miss him. I miss him every day.” Cody Walker felt it was his duty to help his brother’s final film be completed.

Paul Walker was beloved by all Fast & Furious fans along with his family, friends, and those helped by his charities.

Walker’s fans constantly return to Khalifa’s song “See You Again” as a source of comfort. The hook reminds listeners that death doesn’t have to be final.
