Wouldn’t it be nice to center yourself and find peace as you approach death?  According to this ancient spiritual practice, you can.  The seven chakras, which come from the Sanskrit word for wheel, control our emotional well being—particularly as we near the end of our lives.  With each chakra representing a different color of the rainbow, our auras shine brightly when we are born and tend to dull as we age, and find ourselves burdened by life’s stresses.  According to Sanskrit spiritual beliefs, if we are overly burdened by negativity when we die, we will remain confined to Earth and unable to reach the other side in our afterlives. Unable to have peace at death.

Dying Consciously, a helpful site on this subject, suggests cleansing the chakras in order to rid your body of toxic energy and retain equilibrium.  You can start by reflecting on regrets or negative feelings you might have held throughout your life as a way to begin the healing process.  In addition to the physical component of the practice that involves locating each chakra and spinning your hands over them counterclockwise, there is the essential emotional aspect that emphasizes forgiveness and love.

For our loved ones who are nearing death, it is very important that we give them permission to die so they can pass on in a peaceful state of mind.  Oftentimes our loved ones cling to life as long as they can despite immense suffering because they feel we have not accepted their essential transition from life to death.  When everyone involved accepts the natural process of death and dying, cleansing the chakras can become a final step to provide personal serenity.  According to Dying Consciously, “When the chakras are cleansed, each center vibrates at its natural frequency, and you radiate the seven colors of the rainbow. The Amazon shamans believe that when all the chakras are clear, you acquire a ‘rainbow body.’ According to legend, when you acquire the rainbow body you can make the journey beyond death to the Spirit world.”

While the chakras can be a useful tool and provide a helpful mindset for a loved one nearing death, they can also perform a vital function in living a balanced, fulfilling life. In the end we are comforted with the knowledge, that they found peace at death.
