SevenPonds is excited to invite our readers to a unique event taking place in San Francisco on April 21, 2018. In conjunction with Final Passages, we will be presenting “Emerging Rituals: Experiencing New Ways of Honoring & Celebrating End of Life,” a series of powerful demonstrations and discussions of a wide variety of emerging rituals and practices around end of life. The event is part of Reimagine End of Life events and will take place at the The Rotunda of St.Gregory’s of NYSSA Episcopal Church, located in Potrero Hill, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, but you must sign up to attend.
Presenters at the SevenPonds sponsored event will include Jerrigrace Lyons, the principal of Final Passages and a pioneer in home funerals and after death care, plus Sally Shannon who will walk participants through the process of creating a heart will. Also presenting will be Henry Fersko-Weiss, the executive director and co-founder of the nonprofit International End of Life Doula Association (INELDA). The afternoon will also include a demonstration of the ancient practice of shrouding, and discussions on green burials; cremation; and creating a personalized memorial service of celebration of life. Music thanatologists will also perform throughout the afternoon specifically for this Reimagine End of Life event.
This inspiring afternoon of learning and discovery is being offered as part of Re-imagine End of Life events, a week-long series of 50 plus events being held throughout San Francisco between April 16 and April 22, 2018. Presented in partnership with the San Francisco Palliative Care Work Group, Re-imagine represents the coming together of a diverse community of artists, storytellers, healthcare professionals, innovators, musicians and designers whose goal is to encourage honest, open conversations about life, death and loss. Together, we hope to break down old taboos and transform our shared vision of what it means to live a good life right up to the very end.
