We recently did a blog post on Best Funeral Ever, a TV show based in Dallas, Texas. One of our readers, Cindy Garner, expressed her opinion on the show:
“I watched it last Sunday night and, although the families seemed to be on board and happy about the personalized ‘life celebration’ put on by this funeral home, just my opinion, but they seemed in some instances, headed down the wrong track when it comes to an emotionally healthy way to honor and grieve the loss of someone they loved. I am a strong believer in ‘live and let live’ and am committed in my celebrant practice to make sure I set my own opinions aside when planning a service for a family but this sort of portrayal to the general public is rather dangerous. It still does surprise me sometimes how strong opinions, i.e., emotions, are, and how widely they differ when it comes to the subject of death and funerals. It is my feeling there is so much good work that needs to be done to help people through this time of their lives, but there are also so many places when wrapping up a diseased person’s affairs and within each person’s ‘grief journey’ to become side-lined.”
Cindy also expressed that, in a positive light, the show does get people talking and thinking “outside the box.”
Do you find the show controversial? We’re curious and want to hear your thoughts on this. If you haven’t checked it out and are curious about Best Funeral Ever, here’s the link to the trailer: http://bit.ly/1251NGy
