Our Monthly Tip:

Celebrating the life of a person who has died can be difficult when Christmas is around the corner. It becomes important to address the holiday but not overpower the importance of the person being celebrated. With some simple decorations, the celebration of life can be the star.

An undecorated tree and some white strings of lights can add beauty and holiday magic without all the over-the-top holiday decor. A clean new wood pallet can become the backdrop for the celebration of life memorial board. Pictures can be pinned or taped up or propped on the various boards. Use strings of lights with white strings to provide a more celebration of life ambiance. An evergreen tree with only a plain stand and no lights or decorations can also be appropriate as the holidays approach.

How-To Suggestions:

Holiday tree lots typically come early to your neighborhood. Select a tree that has a beautiful shape since it will be without decorations. An affordable wooden pallet can be purchased online, and a holiday tree stand can be found online or at a local hardware store. To string the white lights on the wood pallet, use white or silver metal tacks between the white coated strings, being careful to not push the tack into the coated wires. The tack needs only hold the wire in place.

If you like, invite family members and friends to add photos to your pallet display. They can also pin their favorite photos to a holiday tree with simple clothespins.

Celebrating the first set of holidays after losing a loved one can be difficult. So many traditions may feel empty without the one who is gone. However, along with experiencing old traditions, your family can gather to make new memories while honoring the memories that came before. Perhaps not every decoration will get put up this year, but letting your loved one shine may be all the light you need.
