Our Tip of the Month:
When a father who loved baseball dies, the game might become a sad reminder of when you frequented those fields together. Everything might look, sound and smell the same in the bleachers, but the experience can bring emptiness and longing. One way to celebrate those good memories is to create a baseball-themed memorial for a dad who loved the sport and share his joy for the game.
How-to Suggestions:
Gather your dad’s favorite baseball items together. A few things you might consider include his:
Jersey
Pants
Shoes
Baseball Glove
Baseballs
Bat
Photos
Other Mementos
If you are using the memorial as a centerpiece for a celebration of life, find a table and the best space for guests to gather.
Center a nail in the wall behind the table and hang the jersey. Spread out the arms with double-sided tape, and hang the hat over the nail. Or you can hang the pants or shoes beside the jersey. Use your best creative skills here.
Arrange the photographs, old and new, and mix them with ticket stubs, autographed baseball cards, and other mementos.
Lay out the baseball glove with a few balls. Leave one ball out and ask folks to sign the ball or use a bat instead, especially if you expect a lot of people. You might even make some popcorn or play some classic baseball music.
Another way to enjoy this activity is to create a baseball-themed memorial in your home. Find a small nook in his favorite room or den, arrange some photos and pieces of clothing on a shelf, and lean some bats around so you can remember him and his love for baseball every day.
