Our Tip of the Month
Many of us gather at a memorial service or celebration of life to recount our favorite memories of the loved one who died. You can bring another element to this cherished practice by asking your guests to help you to create a photo collage in a vintage frame to display at the service for everyone to see.
How-to Suggestions
Request on the invitation to your memorial service that guests bring their favorite photo (or two) to add to the collage. Set up a location where arriving guests can pick up a clothespin and a piece of string and add their photos on the spot. This will give all the attendees an opportunity to share in others’ memories of their beloved’s life. Guests who contribute may also wish to share a story about the photo they selected with your other guests.
To find a vintage frame for the service, ask your friends if they have one sitting around their homes, or check out antique shops, online resellers or vintage stores. The window frame may be painted or natural wood. Apply small eye hook screws inside each window pane, then tie a string to the eye hooks. If the glass is still in the window frames, you may want to use old-fashioned black picture corners pasted on the glass to hold the photos in place instead.
After the service, take the photo collage home and keep it as a memento of the service and all of the wonderful stories your loved ones shared. Or, if you prefer, you can simply return the photos and keep the wonderful memories stored in your heart.
