Our Tip of the Week: When it comes to planning a memorial service or celebration of life ceremony for a loved one who has died, you strive to honor him or her by displaying tokens of what he or she loved most — whether through the eulogies or decorations. For example, did he or she love books with a deep passion? Why not share his or her favorite works of literature with fellow mourners who have gathered at his or her service? Those cherished, perhaps dog-eared, copies from your late loved one’s library could find new homes where they can be enjoyed for many more years.

How-to Suggestion: Gather up a pile of your departed loved one’s absolute favorite books. If you choose to have a memory table at his or her memorial service or celebration of life ceremony, you can place them either on or near the table. Make a sign that (the gist of which) says, “So-and-So was an avid reader. Please feel free to take one of his or her books and enjoy it in his or her memory.” This offering of your departed loved one’s most beloved books will be sure to make the service’s attendees remember the person who is gone in the best way possible — by sharing the legacy of his or her love of reading with the people he or she loved best during their lifetimes.
