“Tomorrow Is Another Day”

Mathieu Lehanneur's unique design inspires meditations on both life and death

French designer Mathieu Lehanneur has come up with a way to “see” the future: well, sort of. His art piece, “Tomorrow Is Another Day,” is a round, hanging projector that offers viewers a video image of the next day’s weather. It is updated according to real-time weather information collected from the Internet. Because it was originally designed for the palliative care unit of the Diaconesses/Croix-Saint-Simon Hospital, it aims to remind people that things can get better. It can, quite literally, be sunnier tomorrow.

The sculpture, which has a honeycomb-like surface, also allows for meditations on life’s impermanence and mutability. The piece attempts to capture the notion that life is always changing, always moving forward. So whether a viewer is pondering the inevitability of death or gaining a new optimism about the future, “Tomorrow Is Another Day” definitely provides food for thought.
