These DIY memorial hearts make a tender addition to a celebration of life ceremony. Here’s how to make one:

1) The Perfect Paper:
Whether or not you want the heart’s paper to be from a specific text is your decision. Yet the use of a loved one’s favorite poem or book can make the result all the more meaningful. If you’d like to make a hefty amount of hearts, however, check out local thrift and Goodwill stores for cheap books.

2) Fold & Glue:
Place a rectangular piece of card stock (preferably colored) upright, and gently bend and glue your chosen paper to each side of it to form the shape of the memorial heart. Create as many layers as you like – just know that the size of the heart will depend on how large you cut your center card stock (ex. try six inches by two inches). Leave about half of an inch of the card stock exposed, then 1) hole punch it 2) pull a ribbon through it and 3) tie.

3) Pick the Placement:
Drape your memorial hearts over the backs of chairs, hang them from branches or use them as place holders for your celebration of life – there’s no limit to where these light, meaningful decorations can go.

Oh my I love this idea. I’m making hearts for my aunt’s memorial service. We are all bringing our photos of Lana. I’m placing everything together for the service. These are perfect to place around her memorial table. I will use some of her old books too. Great memories!
