Our Tip of the Month
Spring is here, and gardeners all across the country are looking forward to the growing season. Spring bulbs like daffodils and tulips may already be blooming, but there’s still plenty of time to plant late spring and summer flowers from seed. So if you’re planning a memorial for a loved one in the near future, you may wish to consider giving flower-seed infused cards as a memorial gift to your guests.
How-to Suggestions
Seed-infused cards are available from many online retailers and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Some, such as these heart-shaped cards from Etsy, are designed to be used as place cards for guests to take home. Others are created specifically for memorials and can be personalized with a message and photos of the loved one who died. All of the cards are infused with a selection of wildflowers that will grow in most climates and types of soil.
If you choose to order personalized photo cards, check out the selection offered by NextGen Memorials, a California-based company that makes biodegradable memorial products such as flower-seed infused cards and bookmarks and paper urns. Their plantable cards are made from handcrafted paper and are attached to a separate card with your message and photo. So after your guests plant the seed-infused cards in the garden, they will have the photo card as a permanent remembrance of the person they lost. The cards sell for $75 for 25 and $145 for 50.
Of course, it’s possible to save a bit of money by adding the photo card yourself. In that case, you can order from a selection of handcrafted seed cards personalized with up to three lines of text. Then simply paste a photo of your loved one on a 4-inch or 6-inch square piece of card stock and attach the seed-infused card to that.
