Our Tip of the Month
Sometimes it can be hard to know how to support a grieving friend. Many of us do not know what to say, but we want to do something. Creating a special gift can be one way to show your support to those who recently lost a loved one. Here is one idea for a gift for a grieving friend that’s easy to make and inexpensive too.
How-to Suggestions
Write notes of encouragement or memories on long strips of paper that are white on one side and yellow on the other.

Wrap the note around some candy and use twine to secure it in place. Yellow or white string will look best.

You can purchase specialty taffy and build your own assortment of brightly colored flavors, or make your own at home. Mason jars are readily available in most stores. Choose a large one so you can fit a photo or two inside. Decorative yellow and white baker’s twine and yellow paper can be found in craft stores.
Add the special candies to a jar or other decorative packaging. Share your gift with your friend with the tag “Jar of Sunshine” or “Box of Sunshine” — whatever suits your container best. You can hand-deliver your gift or leave it on their doorstep.

Your friend will take solace in unwrapping the candies and reading what you wrote – touching them in a most caring way. If you have any photos (especially ones they have never seen before), include them in the jar. Your friend will be grateful to see a new image of their loved one, bringing them back into their life for a day.
