These DIY tin lanterns are an inexpensive and environmentally friendly decoration for any memorial or celebration of life ceremony. Most importantly, they create a homey, intimate atmosphere for friends and family. Here are our tips on how to make them:

1) Can It:
Stock up on cans of all sizes! The variety will only add to the rustic, at-home charm. Remove labels easily by soaking cans in hot, soapy water for 10-15 minutes.

2) Just Chill:
Fill the cans with water and place in freezer until completely frozen. This will prevent the cans from collapsing when you “hammer” your design.

3) Get Creative:
Hammer your design—be it your loved one’s initials, a heart, etc.—gently into the can with a nail (using a wrench to stabilize your hand). You may want your lanterns to hang, light a pathway, or simply set the mood at the table. In every case, they’ll create a pervasively warm atmosphere through the projection of your design.
